Volkswagen’s Kariega-built Polo Maintains its #Carsawards Winning Streak
March 2025
The moment marked the fifth straight victory for the popular Polo hatchback in this competition’s Compact Hatch category. The Polo 1.0 TSI Comfortline Auto opened the gambit when it claimed victory in this segment at the 2020 #Carsawards evening.
The Cars.co.za Awards utilises a unique scoring system that involves extensive testing by a panel of respected automotive and consumer journalists before factoring inputs from a broad selection of vehicle owners to best gauge respective sales- and aftersales experiences.
“The Cars.co.za Awards brings together insights of top motoring experts in the country combined with feedback from real people who drive these vehicles every day, to help our users make the best choices for their budget and lifestyle,” said Amasi Mwela, Managing Director of Cars.co.za.
“With 50% of the final scores determined by brands’ survey ratings, a vehicle only really stands a chance of winning if it is a good product in the eyes of the judges and if its brand delivers solid after-sales service.”
On the eve of Polo’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Volkswagen has sold more than 20 million examples of this model. Volkswagen Group Africa’s Kariega plant is currently the sole global supplier of Polo GTI and is responsible for all Polo units for the South African, European, and Asia Pacific markets.
