Copper Package Polo Concept Unveiled at 2024 Festival of Motoring
September 2024
Developed under the watchful eye of project designer Matthew Parsons at the home of Volkswagen Group Africa in Kariega, a proposed new Copper Package concept for the modern Polo hatch was showcased at the recent 2024 South African Festival of Motoring.
A special edition model that on approval would bridge the gap between the entry-level model and Life specification, the Copper Package aims to add striking cosmetic updates to the Kariega-built Polo allowing it to stand out in the crowd. As such, the car is based on the 70 kW 1.0 TSI powertrain and mated with a five-speed manual transmission.
With feedback from the public encouraged – including which exterior colour palette best shows off the copper theme – the concept car features a black painted roof and rear privacy glass, a black pinstripe decal on the tailgate and a gloss black bonnet lip. Dark Copper Metallic insets have been introduced within the car’s 16-inch Valencia alloy wheels and match the colour of the side mirror housings and model-specific decals.
The theme continues inside the car with a Dark Copper Metallic graphic added to the car’s dashboard.
Volkswagen Group Africa has a long-established history of introducing locally developed special edition models, including several popular Citi Golf-based derivates and, of course, the continued evolution of the best-selling Polo Vivo product.
