Does my child have to sit facing backwards or forwards?

Children aged up to 15 months have to travel facing backwards, after which they can sit facing the direction of travel. We recommend transporting children backwards well beyond the age of 15 months. The “i-SIZE Dualfix” child seat enables children up to 105 cm in height to be transported backwards.

No matter whether they're facing forwards or backwards: If you want to transport your child on the front passenger seat, the child seat should be in the last position of the length adjustment system and, where applicable, in the top position of the height adjustment system. Do I have to deactivate the airbag if I place my child on the front passenger seat?

Only if your child is facing backwards on the front passenger seat do you need to deactivate the front airbag, which can otherwise present a safety hazard.

What do ISOFIX and i-Size mean?

ISOFIX is an easy-to-use fastening system for child seats. It consists of brackets, which are fixed between the backrest and the seat, and with the help of which the child seat can be firmly connected.

i-Size child seats are approved according to the European UN-R129 child seat standard and can be recognised by the i-Size symbol. Compared with previous standards, UN-R129 includes, among other things, tests for side impact protection. The i-Size symbol can also be found in newer Volkswagen models and marks the ISOFIX brackets used for mounting the i-Size child seats.

What can you do on long journeys with children?

Take plenty of entertainment for your child along for the ride, such as cuddly toys, colouring books or audio books etc. Schedule breaks so everyone can stretch their legs or go to the toilet. Take enough snacks or plan meals into the breaks.
