Johannesburg, 26 August 2025 – Following its premier at the Volkswagen Indaba early in 2025, the all-new Volkswagen Tayron is available for sale in South Africa.
The 7-seater sport utility vehicle is positioned between the Touareg and the Tiguan. The new Volkswagen Tayron is engineered and built in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Technology systems that were first developed for the Touareg have been adapted. Examples of the technology transferred to the Tayron include the interactive IQ. LIGHT HD matrix headlights and the seats with a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function.
All-terrain design and premium interior. With a length of 4.79m, the Tayron is characterised by a clean, striking SUV design. At the front, LED headlights and the illuminated Volkswagen badge create an unmistakeable light signature. The same applies to the rear with its full-length horizontal LED bar and illuminated Volkswagen logo. Sharply drawn lines in the elongated silhouette emphasise the high design quality of the Tayron. The seven-seater interior design also matches this standard. The interior features high-quality finishes and materials such as ArtVelours Eco (microfibre) and illuminated trims, depending on the equipment line.
Tayron Life – everything on board. The all-new Tayron will launch with three equipment lines: Tayron Base, Life and R-Line. The 5-seater Base derivative offers Eco LED headlights, Park Assist, Blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert, 12.9-inch infotainment Radio, Adaptive cruise control with front assist, Lane keeping assist including 18-inch Bologna alloy wheels. The Tayron Life comes standard with an extensive equipment package. Among the features on board are a three-zone automatic air conditioner, 10-colour background lighting, nine airbags, driving experience control (which adjusts driving profiles), an infotainment system with App-Connect Wireless (for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). The Life derivative also includes digital instruments, LED headlights with automatic main beam control (Light Assist), illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear.
Standard assist systems include adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane change system (Side Assist), lane keeping system (Lane Assist), an automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring (Front Assist), Park Assist Plus, a rear-view camera system. Additionally, the Tayron comes with a new exit warning system, which can prevent a door from being opened if a vehicle approaches from behind, offering both acoustic and visual warnings.
Tayron R-Line – top version. Above the Life derivative there is the sporty R-Line derivative. The dynamic Tayron R-Line is characterised by details such as sports comfort seats in Varenna leather extensive use of leather in the dash panel and doors, aluminium-look decorative trim, individual bumpers in an R-Line design and 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels. The R-Line is also equipped with LED Plus headlights (including dynamic cornering light), 3D LED tail clusters with dynamic turn signal and 30-colour background lighting including illuminated interior applications in the dash panel and door trim.
Optional packages – aimed to offer customers individualisation. Black Style package offered exclusively for the Tayron R-Line include decorative body trim and attachments (including roof rails) in high-gloss black, Black diamond turned surface 20-inch alloy wheels, a front bumper in an individualised R-Line design and interior decorative trim in dark chrome look. Depending on the specification package, the Tayron can also be customised with a Leather package, Navigation Infotainment package and an IQ Package which includes Travel Assist and LED Matrix Headlights
Assistance systems. The assist systems equipped as standard in all Tayron derivatives include adaptive cruise control (ACC), oncoming vehicle braking when turning function, lane change system (Side Assist), lane keeping system (Lane Assist), an automatic emergency braking system including pedestrian and cyclist monitoring (Front Assist), rear view camera system and exist warning system. As an extension of the lane change system, the latter can, within the system limits prevent one of the doors from being opened if another road user approaches from behind.
Technology highlights – HD headlights. Other optional equipment for the Tayron includes innovative systems such as Volkswagen’s sophisticated IQ. LIGHT HD matrix headlights with interactive lighting functions, a large tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon sound system with a music output of 700W and a high-quality Leather package with electrically adjustable ergo Active Plus seats including massage and ventilation functions. Equipment options include innovative assist systems such as Travel Assist, which provides assisted longitudinal and lateral guidance over the entire speed range.
Efficient engine. The new Tayron will be offered with the 1.4 TSI 110kW engine mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The engine develops maximum torque of 250 Nm available between 1500 and 3500 rpm.

The Volkswagen Tayron comes standard with a 3 year/120 000 km warranty, 5 year / 90 000 km EasyDrive Service Plan including a 12-year anti corrosion warranty. The service interval is 15 000 km.
