Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will again be mingling with South Africa’s all-important agricultural community at NAMPO 2018. In addition to their wide range of popular vehicles, Volkswagen will be revealing the much-anticipated, 100% all-new Crafter. What better place to view the International Van of the Year 2017 than at its first showcasing in South Africa?
What is NAMPO? Since 1967 Grain SA has organised the NAMPO Harvest Day exhibition in support of the local agricultural industry. The annual event, which is the biggest of its kind in the Southern hemisphere; takes place between the 15th and 18th of May 2018 this year at NAMPO Park just outside of Bothaville in the Free State.
Exhibitions range from livestock to tractors, agricultural machinery to irrigation, chemicals to seed… and of course vehicles. From time to time exhibitors select NAMPO as the platform to launch new products. Volkswagen launched the V6 Amarok at NAMPO 2017 and this year the all-new Crafter will be launched at the same event in May.
What Can You Expect from new Crafter?
The exterior boasts a standout aesthetic, aerodynamic to ensure maximum fuel efficiency, with the bold grille unmistakeable of Volkswagen’s design language. What’s more, the new Crafter has been completely reengineered following an investment of 2.5 billion Euro in researching various customer applications of the Crafter around the world. Along with subtle ergonomic enhancements like a lower loading sill, the new Crafter offers highest durability and strength following intensive testing. It boasts class-leading safety features like Side-Wind Assist, Multi-Collision Braking, Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and
Roll Movement Intervention (RMI) as standard, and driver assistance systems unexpected on a panel van like Trailer Parking Assist, Parallel Parking Assist and Rear Traffic Alert (all optional) to make parking and reversing this large van a breeze… Speaking of large, the enhanced load compartment is ready for any conversion and there is room for anything in the cabin as the new Crafter has more storage trays and compartments than any other vehicle in the C/D segment.
Amarok V6 Extreme
Powerful like no other - the Amarok V6 Extreme with its six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, 3.0 capacity, has more than enough power reserves to comfortably address the most demanding situations. Additional power comes from its over-boost function, which briefly increases the performance of the TDI engine up to 180kW depending on the driving situation. The Amarok V6 Extreme is a work-horse of a vehicle – packed with both power and good looks.
The first gear has been specially optimised for pulling off on steep slopes and when towing, the eighth gear reduces fuel consumption through low-speed driving on long journeys. The Amarok V6 Extreme is an uncompromising, hard-working bakkie, the only one that is 100% German engineered. It’s no wonder it was recently crowned International Pick-up of the Year 2018.
