South Africa was extremely proud to be the first country in the world to successfully run the S2000 series in 2005, with the Volkswagen Rally team taking top honours in that year.
The S2000 Class has been so successful, that it is now being run as the premium class in the World Rally Championships as from 2011.
The BP Volkswagen Rally team strode to victory for the sixth consecutive year in 2010 by winning the Overall National Rally Driver and Navigator Championships in an S2000 Polo Vivo. Driver Enzo Kuun and navigator Guy Hodgson claimed the top positions, whilst their team mates finished in third and fifth places in both the Driver and Navigator Championships.
In 2011, three S2000 Polo Vivo will be raced by Enzo Kuun, Jan Habig and Hergen Fekken. Their navigators are Guy Hodgson (with Kuun), Robert Paisley (with Habig) and Pierre Arries (with Fekken). Gugu Zulu and navigator Carl Peskin are running in the A7 Class in a Polo Vivo, together with an all-girl Development team of Megan Verlaque and navigator Lirene Du Plessis in the A5 Class in a Polo Vivo.
Another highlight for our team this year will be the participation of Dakar Rally Champion Giniel de Villiers as a driver, with navigator Ralph Pitchford, also of Dakar fame. They will be running an S2000 Polo Vivo, making up our strong four-car team for the South African Rally Championships.
