Whether you’re embarking on an off-road adventure or a casual round-the-block routine, Volkswagen’s unique 4Motion system ensures that you’ll have the best kind of drive – no matter the conditions.
How does it work?
The 4Motion system delivers power/torque to the axle that will propel the vehicle optimally under various conditions – this means it will be front-wheel drive under normal driving conditions. But when driving in challenging conditions, 4Motion ensures ultimate control of the vehicle by being infinitely variable - as much as 100% of the torque can be transferred to the wheels with the best traction. So you can send up to 100% of the drive force to one wheel for optimal driving safety and performance.
What does 4Motion actually do?
It automatically chooses the best transmission characteristics for the prevailing road and weather conditions, apportioning exactly the right amount of power to the wheels. The result is superb stability and optimum control, with less risk of loss of traction or skidding. When 4Motion detects a need for hard acceleration 4Motion will dial in the optimum power transmission setting for maximum traction. When wheel spin is no longer a danger, the transmission is realigned to deliver a “normal” drive setting.
