Volkswagens are not only successful motorsport winners in South Africa: wherever you go in the world, you'll find them racing at the forefront of motorsport.
Not only does Volkswagen's racing success span across the globe, but South Africa's very own rally driver Giniel de Villiers has also been making international headlines in a Volkswagen Race Touareg with his navigator Dirk von Zitzewitz. Another South African, Ralph Pitchford, navigates for the same International Volkswagen Rally team alongside driver Mark Miller. Volkswagen won the 2009 Dakar Rally in Argentina and Chile with the Race Touareg and thus made motorsport history. The victory, clinched by the South African-German duo Giniel and Dirk, marked the first ever victory of a diesel-powered vehicle in the automobile class in the 30-year-history of the Dakar Rally. Their Volkswagen Rally team colleagues Mark Miller and Ralph Pitchford followed right behind and completed the exploit with a one-two victory for Volkswagen, proving that there is no competition for the Race Touareg.
